At Levi's 4 month checkup, the doctor recommended I read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. So, I went to the 'ole Public Library (which by the way no longer uses the card catalog system...I had to ask for help...that's how long it's been since I was in a library...sad yet true)...anyways, I checked out the book. I'm still reading it but there's a small issue...it puts ME to sleep. The book is as entertaining as watching paint dry on a wall. It is full of usual information, I'll give it that but I'm having a hard time reading all that useful detail.
So! Here's the napping deal. We've allowed Levi to spend most of his time napping in his swing when he's at home. And from what I've been told, he either naps on the floor or in a swing at daycare. This was all good until a good friend recently said to me 'What will you do once he outgrows the swing?' Umm...I had no answer. In addition, we've been working on Levi sleeping in his crib at night (versus his bassinet that was in our room). We've 'mastered' that and now I want to transition him to the crib for naps. Which leads me to the next point...
| Napping in his crib. He likes sleeping on his side. |
The only time Levi naps 'at home' is on the weekends....and we have so much going on /things to do, we're never 'at home' when he naps so he sleeps in his car seat, stroller, etc - not in his crib. Most times, those naps are 'cat naps' lasting anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour...depending on where we are and what we are doing. As Levi gets older, I'm wondering if this is sufficient for his naps? From what I'm getting from the book - a good nap will lead to not only a happy baby but one that will grow into an individual that can process complex thoughts and focus later in life. So...napping is far more complicated and important than I initially thought. Not to mention - we're not with him at daycare...so we asked them to begin putting him in a crib...which they started...because same issue at daycare - no consistency and quick naps.
| Levi normally falls asleep in his car seat on drive from daycare...which is just 2 miles away. That's how exhausted he is each day. |
So, fingers crossed this whole 'napping' thing will work out sooner than later...and my precious little one will get more shut eye each day.
Love!
