Body After Baby

As most of you know, I gained almost a full 30 pounds while pregnant with Levi.  I was VERY stressed out about getting the pounds off after Levi was born.  Since I had a c-section, I also knew my recovery process would last a little longer...I was cleared to workout at 5 1/2 weeks postpartum but I had been walking our neighborhood since about a week after Levi was born.  Anyways, it's been quite a challenge getting back to my pre-prego weight...those silly last 5 pounds would NOT go away.  So my SIL mentioned a diet called '17 Day Diet'.  Sold...didn't take much to convince me to try something new.  And get this - my super supportive husband who does not have a pound to lose said he would do this diet with me as support.  I know, he's a total keeper.

We've completed 7 days on this diet and here's some thoughts:
  • Days 1 and 2 were okay....but I was missing bread and candy.
  • Day 3 I felt nauseous when I woke up....kind of weak.  I wanted to stop the diet then.  It was such an awful feeling.  But I ate and drank lots of water and felt better.
  • By Day 4 or 5 I was down 5 pounds.  And I was shocked. I thought it would take the entire time to lose 5 pounds.
  • Day 6 I was DYING for food.  I felt sick and weak.
  • Day 7 I cracked.  I ate a HUGE salad from Chipotle with guac and brown rice.  I knew if I didn't get more substance in my body I would quit the diet altogether.
  • Day 8 was okay but we decided to incorporate chickpeas and edamame back into our diet.  We felt like we needed something else to eat and we both loves these two items....plus, they are not bad for you.
  • You're supposed to get some form of exercise in for 17 minutes/day.  This hasn't been an issue for us..and if/when we don't feel like going to the gym we simply take Levi around the neigborhood in his stroller.
I have to admit, I am weary if this diet will allow you to sustain weight loss long-term. To me, it seems like the moment I eat a slice of bread or bag or two of gummy worms (what?!) I'll pack the pounds back on.  BUT what I am learning from this diet is what foods help 'cleanse' your body and how bad sugar is for you.  My body was in a bit of a shock when I lowered my sugar intake.  I really want to continue to monitor how much I'm consuming daily going forward.

And a couple pics from recent....I caught up with my high school BFF's this weekend which was more than wonderful.  I love these girls so much.  I've been besties with this gang since 6th grade and I know we'll continue to be in each other's lives.  Priceless.  And here's also a cute pic of Levi sitting up...something we're working on with him. :)  He's growing up so fast!  LOVE!

Levi @ 5 months sitting up...kind of :)
