“Stormy or sunny days, glorious or lonely nights, I maintain an attitude of gratitude.” – Maya Angelou

My last post was from February 27th which is like five months ago. A lot has happened in the past five months.
-          Drew ran his first marathon and it was on trails – he placed 4th overall
-          Girls weekend in Asheville with Kristen and Audrey and our daughters (it snowed!)
-          LLS’s Man and Woman of the Year Charlotte campaign kicked off which lasted 10 weeks so we spent a lot of time attending events and enjoying time with all the amazing candidates
-          Moms In Training season kicked off also raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
-          Another girls weekend in Asheville – this time we did a 9 mile run (with Kristen, Becca, and Katie)
-          I met Christian Laettner through one of the LLS events!
-          Registered Levi for Kindergarten
-          Spoke at the MWOY Gala sharing Levi’s story and our journey with cancer
-          Weekend get-away with my handsome Drew to celebrate our 9 year anniversary
-          Spent a week at the beach for our family vacation (it was perfect!)
-          Ellington Jean – our baby girl – turned 3!
-          And a lot of other things in between….
Levi’s Leukemia Treatment
As far as Levi’s treatment goes, he’s doing well. We’re still just going through the cycle of Maintenance which includes daily chemo, weekend medicine, 5 days a month of a nasty steroid, monthly visit to clinic for chemo into his port and every 12 weeks he receives an LP which is chemo injected into his spine. He handles it like a champ – barely crying now when they access his port. It’s become his norm. That makes me sad but I won’t dwell. It’s necessary and there’s no need. If Levi’s handing his treatment well then Drew and I have no reason to think negative. This experience challenges me daily to think differently and respond differently than I may have in the past.
Levi did get sick in March and April but we got through it with only one (maybe two) hospital stays. Otherwise, we were able to treat at clinic. We made it through flu season unscathed so that alone was a huge win.
Elle Belle
I’ll have to provide a separate update for Ellie but she’s doing wonderful. She’s such a loving, happy little girl. She’s developing wonderfully and we all adore her. She is still obsessed with yellow and baby dolls. She loves Mickey Mouse. And she remains my sunshine in this little storm. I don’t know what I would do without her smile and laugh – she is truly a blessing from God. My family is too.
Gratitude
I’m trying to focus on being grateful – for all that I have in my life – every day. To stop at some point and just appreciate the moments of that day. Yes, it may sound cheesy but for me, it helps slow down my mind and forget about some of the outside noises that try to steal happiness away. To just appreciate things ‘as is’…which isn’t easy. We’re in a good place and for that I am thankful.
