Ellie Jean - 8 weeks

Long overdue update on Miss Ellington Jean!
We've been so busy having a blast and getting to know each other that this blog has been kicked to the back burner.  So, after 8 weeks, we've got a bit of catching up to do about Miss Ellie!  I thought I'd highlight each week to bring you up to speed...

Week 1: 75% of this week was spent at the hospital.  We were discharged on Friday, July 4, but we didn't do anything special.  Levi went to the lake with my parents so that we could get Ellie settled.  The biggest challenge was getting Ellie to sleep...Levi slept in the bassinet so I was hoping Ellie would sleep in the rock n play; however because Ellie was used to sleeping 'on me' at the hospital she wanted to continue to do the same at home.  I was not one for co-sleeping but I really wanted to sleep and was so exhausted from no sleep at the hospital (thanks for getting rid of the nursery CMC Main!) and from surgery -- I would do anything, including letting my newborn sleep in the bed with me.

Breastfeeding worked great at the hospital but once I got home I was so sore I almost gave up...luckily I called a lactation consultant and worked through the pain (no supply issues) which was due to poor latching.

Weeks 2 & 3: Drew went back to work so my Mom came and kept me company and Ellie and I just got settled into our new lives together.  I don't recall anything to call out for these 2 weeks....perhaps because it was the typical routine of eat, sleep, diaper change.  Ellie's weight did drop around this time but we were able to briefly supplement (just a teeny bit) to get her back on track...working with the lactation consultant with the latching issues is what really got Ellie and I back on track with her weight.

We also took Ellie to the pool, Freedom Park and a couple other places like Starbucks. It's true what the say about the second child - they just tag along to your life.  With Levi I don't think I left the house for weeks!

Week 4: Ellie's first beach trip! :)  We went to Kure Beach with Levi, my Mom and nephew Ivan.  Ellie slept the entire 4 hours there and back.  AMAZING!  It rained the entire beach trip - sigh - but really it was a nice get-away because we laid around and took it easy for few days. Levi was entertained by Ivan and Ellie got lots of love from me and my Mom.

Weeks 5 & 6:  Ellie and I started venturing out more - grocery shopping, lunches with my Mom, mall trip, Target, etc.  We also went to the pool several times with Levi and Drew.  Ellie just slept in the car seat in the shade...she's such a good baby!

Ellie went to the Y and stayed in the nursery for the first time this week... and I almost lost it.  I had to run to the locker room bathroom stall to wipe my eyes. Leaving her - even for an hour - was tough.  I don't know how I'll leave her at daycare.  I am already dreading that day....I try not to think about it but at the same time cannot stop thinking about it.

Week 7: Ellie smiled for the first time!  She makes the cutest expressions!  This is also the week that Levi caught a really bad cold and ran a fever for a few days and stayed home from daycare almost the entire week.  It was an exhausting week but it was nice to spend so much time with my babies together.  We walked to the park, walked around the neighborhood, and watched movies.  We also took a couple trips to the pool (once Levi was feeling better).

Week 8: That starts today!  Ellie is officially 8 weeks!  She's so beautiful and growing!  She now fits into the 3 month clothes - finally!  And yes....she's still sleeping in our bed.  Oy!  I know...I know!  But breastfeeding is going great (change of subject)! :)

We love you SO VERY MUCH Ellington!
